A Night of Music, Miracles & Meaning: Dr. Joel Berley's Purim Celebration for Children with Disabilities

In a heartfelt celebration that blended tradition with purpose, Dr. Joel Berley hosted “A Purim Night of Peace and Music” — an evening designed not only to bring joy but also to make a lasting difference. This special event raised both awareness and funds for the Keren Or Jerusalem Center for Blind Children with Multiple Disabilities, a cause deeply close to Dr. Berley’s heart.
Held in a warm, festive setting adorned with colorful Purim decorations, the night was more than a community gathering — it was a powerful reminder of the impact one evening of compassion and connection can have. Guests, many in vibrant costumes, enjoyed a lineup of live music, storytelling, and family-friendly activities. But underneath the laughter and celebration was a shared mission: to uplift children facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
This concert was the third in a growing series of charitable musical events organized by Dr. Berley. Following the success of Hollywood Music Festival (benefiting Magen David Adom) and Winterfest (supporting the Friendship Circle), this Purim edition continued the rhythm of giving — a tradition Dr. Berley hopes to grow into a movement.
A passionate musician himself, Dr. Berley didn’t just organize the event — he performed throughout the evening, infusing every note with sincerity and soul. “I wanted the night to feel joyful, but also to remind us of the daily battles these children fight,” he said during his opening remarks. “Their potential is incredible, and we all have a role to play in helping them reach it.”
Keren Or, a unique 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Israel, supports children who are not only blind but also live with cognitive, physical, or developmental disabilities. Through advanced therapies such as hydrotherapy, music therapy, and visual rehabilitation, Keren Or offers a holistic approach that changes — and often saves — lives.
A highlight of the evening was a touching video montage that introduced the audience to some of the children and families served by Keren Or. As the room fell silent, emotions ran high. Many guests were moved to tears, witnessing firsthand how meaningful intervention brings light into the lives of these children.
Later, a candle-lighting ceremony honored the children, their families, and the dedicated caregivers of Keren Or. Donation stations and QR codes placed around the venue made it easy for attendees to give generously — and they did. By the end of the night, a substantial amount had been raised to support Keren Or’s vital work.
Beyond his role as a surgeon, Dr. Joel Berley has built a legacy of service. From supporting veterans with PTSD through Healing Trails, to organizing wellness retreats for men coping with stress, and volunteering at his synagogue — his dedication to healing extends far beyond the operating room.
“For me, being a doctor means doing whatever it takes to ease someone’s pain — whether that’s through surgery, a kind word, or a fundraiser like this one,” Dr. Berley shared.
“A Night of Music, Miracles & Meaning” wasn’t just a concert. It was a powerful call to action — a reminder that even small acts of generosity, when united by music and mission, can transform lives.
Donations to Keren Or are still being accepted through their website, and those inspired by the event are encouraged to get involved or spread the word.
As Purim teaches us to bring joy and light to others, Dr. Berley’s initiative shines as a true example — proving that with compassion, creativity, and community, anything is possible.
